Manju Kak is an author, activist and academician in history, art and culture, whose work has a special focus on mountains.
Through word, image, research or curatorial theme, she has been intensely exploring some unique aspect of Himalayan life to enhance the understanding India’s cultural diversity which is instrumental in building peaceful societies through the understanding of the other.
She was the Organiser/ Convenor of an International Seminar on the Roerich Legacy held at the University of Jamia Millia Islamia in Delhi. This Seminar invited Roerich Scholars from Moscow, Italy, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Latvia etc. It was partially sponsored by the Department of Culture & Indian Council for Cultural Relations and chaired by its President, renowned philosopher and scholar politician Dr Karan Singh. Manju Kak also curated a parallel exhibition of the Roerich Peace Pact and later published the book “ Nicholar Roerich: A Quest & a Legacy” available on Amazon worldwide. She was also instrumental in mentoring the Exhibition of Roerich’s paintings at the National Gallery of Modern Art, Delhi, inaugurated by the Indian Prime Minister and his Russian counterpart. The paintings were loaned from Moscow through a Cultural Exchange program with the Indian government.
As a journalist with Women’s Feature Service her innumerable articles, reviews, etc., have appeared in leading newspapers.
As a Peace Activist in Jan 2019, she was Convener of a National Dialogue on Peace, Conflict Resolution and Harmony in Delhi “ A Culture of Peace” sponsored by the All India Women’s Conference & India International Centre. Speakers included diplomats, highly regarded academics, generals, UN officials and Peace Practitioners with an audience of largely women.
Currently she is the full time Hon. Treasurer of (AIWC) All India Women’s Conference, and regional Vice President of International Alliance of Women and has been involved in voluntary work on women’s issues for 20 years.
